ANNECY
The Palais de l'Isle,
also called the "old prison", was built from the 12th century. It is
the symbol of the town and is among the most photographed monuments in
all of France.
Great drive across the Alps to Annecy from Cordes. This is our longest drive of the vacation.....never a dull moment. The weather was not sunny but the cloud activity coming through the mountains was like something I have never seen. Again our hotel accommodations were fantastic .... room with a view. As soon as we got in town and checked in we were back out scoping out the area, Annecy is different than our previous stops in the old towns. Annecy although it is also a historical town the surrounding area definitely has a Swiss influence with the style of the homes , roofs and the mountain side settings. Canals run through the city to manage the large volume of water that comes from the surrounding mountains . Lake Annecy is almost crystal clear from the water run off into the lake. I can only imaging what it is like in the spring with the winter snow melt. Lake Annecy sets in the center of the Alps surrounded by small towns . Many of which we managed to visit and walk through. This is an area of France we could spend a lot more time hanging out in. Beautiful place and the right size and activity and very well maintained. Another great stop along the way.
